The goal of the service is to make Twitter your new TV remote, which could finally be a way to monetize the popular social media service. While Twitter has 200 million monthly active users, the company has yet to turn a profit.

Microsoft Awards $100,000 For Discovery Of Exploit

Microsoft has put its money where its mouth is by awarding a $1000,000 to James Forshaw of Context Information Security for finding an exploit in Windows 8.1.

The company had offered up a bounty to anyone who could discover security flaws in the operating system and they paid up when Forshaw found a defense circumvention technique. We may never know exactly what the flaw is, as Microsoft isn't going to want to discuss it until they fix the issue.

Straighten Up & Stop iSlouching

Researchers are warning that slumping over smartphones and games can damage your spine. Dr. Matt Herba says that children are reporting neck problems from what he calls iSlouching and this damage could be permanent.

He says the slouching can add up to 10 pounds of pressure to your spine. The solution? Less time on the phone and remembering to keep good posture, even when you're engrossed in a game or a conversation.

Windows 8 - Pin Frequently Used Programs To Taskbar

Missing Windows 8 Start Menu still got you down? I talked about utilizing the powerful Windows 8 Search Charm in this article. Now I'll show you a handy way to keep your most-used programs right at your fingertips on the desktop – literally at your fingertips if you are using a touchscreen.

Start by pulling up your desktop. You can either tap your Desktop tile:

Or type "Desktop" in your Search Charm.

My most frequently used program is Microsoft Word. Since I use it so often, I have it pinned to my Taskbar.

I also have Internet Explorer and Outlook right where I need them.

Here's how to add a program to the Taskbar. First, you need to open the program you want to pin to the Taskbar by either tapping the tile on the Start Screen or finding it in Apps. Then you'll need to open the Search Charm and select Apps.

You'll see all of your apps displayed.

Find the app you want to pin and right-click or swipe down on the icon for the app.

At the bottom of the screen, you'll see the option to Pin to taskbar.

The app will now be pinned to your Taskbar.

I would suggest not over-doing it and pinning too many programs to your Taskbar. Reserve it for apps you use every day. Anything else you need in Windows 8 is always just a swipe away with your Search Charm.

On The Move

Gary from North Carolina writes:

I am shopping for my first tablet & don't really know what I am looking for. Could you please elaborate on the different operating systems?

Sure Gary, the two major players in the tablet operating system game are Android, with 62% of the tablet market and Apple's iOS with 32.5% of the market. That is a complete turn around from a year ago when Apple held 60% of the market and Android 38%. Microsoft's Windows is trying to get into the tablet game, though they accounted for only 4.5% of tablets.

Let's take a look at your options.

From The Archives

Neal from CA writes:

How do I get rid of the "Blue Screen of Death"?

The blue screen of death is the most dreaded error screen in Windows. It is caused by a sudden failure of any hardware or system level software. To get rid of the blue screen of death, we have to be proactive and know of any recent changes made to our computer.

stop-code

The changes that can lead up to a blue screen of death can be classified into two types broadly.

Hardware Changes:

Faulty RAM

Hardware changes are sometimes the cause of repeated BSoD (Blue Screen of Death). The most common culprit of a BSoD is a faulty stick of RAM. If you have installed any new RAM lately, and your PC is showing a BSoD, it can easily be traced back to the new RAM, which is probably faulty. To make sure that there is no other cause for a BSoD, remove the new RAM and test your PC without the suspected stick, or with another stick of RAM.

Flipped Classroom

This is an interesting infographic about a different model of teaching called the Flipped Classroom.

Now, I know this debate can get contentious, so I just want to say up front that I don't think either is absolutely 100% the correct way to teach. There are lots of different kinds of learners out there and no one model will encompass the best model of learning for everyone. It's just interesting to see information laid out in this type of binary (at the beginning of the infographic) and see possible options to explore in the classroom.

For example, I actually do really well as a student in the Sage on the Stage model, as an introvert group work and activities are very frustrating to me. One of the biggest transitions I'm making in my graduate study is learning to participate in seminar style classes. And I know that online interaction can be sketchy even when participation points are assigned from online classes I've taken in my undergraduate study. So those are just a few flaws that can exist in the model being proposed.

But I still think it is interesting to think about how technology and online content can enhance and improve education. The infographic walks you through education model, how it came to be, what drives it, and how it looks in implementation.

So check it out for yourself, and see what you think about this model of learning!

One More Big Deal

Tactical + SWAT + Flashlight... What's That Equal?

THE BRIGHTEST, TOUGHEST, COOLEST FLASHLIGHT...

EVER!

We DARE You To Watch The Video!

3 Incredible Modes - Adjustable Focus...

AND IT'S RECHARGEABLE!

Plus - You Get The FULL Kit! WOW!

It Can Use Standard AAAs Too! YOUR CHOICE!

It's TOUGH! It's RUGGED!

It's The Last One You'll EVER Need!

Forget EVERYTHING You Thought You Knew About Flashlights!

Nothing you've used before compares to what just arrived here. This thing is top of the line, cream of the crop, the Big Cheese... WHATEVER you want to call it... it's the down-right most incredible flashlight you'll EVER use!

Think of ALL the problems you've ever had with your current flashlight: The light is too dull. You can't get the focus right. It feels like it's gonna break in your hand.

YOU NEED A BETTER ONE!

No, scratch that... you need the BEST one. And that's the "i-Zoom Tactical SWAT Flashlight!"

It's earned every part of that name! It uses high-intensity Cree LEDs that last over 100,000 hours! This is the kinda technology trusted by the top military and police forces! Talk about heavy-duty!

JUST CHECK IT OUT IN THIS QUICK VIDEO!

Let's start with the most important part...

"IS IT BRIGHT?"

All I can say is OOOOH YEAH! This thing is B-R-I-G-H-T BRIGHT!

High watts + Brilliant Lumens = A flashlight that's gonna let you see ANYTHING, ANYWHERE, ANYTIME!

You're gonna get light that shines HUNDREDS of feet away! This is NOT your everyday kinda device!

Save A TON on Batteries!

Right off the bat, this is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. The WORST part of flashlights is that if you can't find batteries, you're outta luck!

Or even worse, dropping HUNDREDS on batteries over the years! That gets expensive!

This one has a wall charger & a car charger! SWEET! No matter where you go, you can power this baby up without having to drop an extra fortune!

You get HOURS of lighting with each full charge, too!

But if you're in a bind, it works with standard batteries too! Just pop 'em in the battery shell and you're good to go!

THIS THING IS INCREDIBLE!

Three Modes - Three Reasons To Love This!

It's got more than just brightness! Three different modes open up TONS of utility!

Press that button once: You get the low-intensity beam. That gives you a softer light that lets you see what you need to see without wakin' up the neighborhood!

Press it twice: Now we're cookin'! This is the high-intensity beam that you've been dreaming of!

Do NOT look directly at this thing! Shine it across the yard, down the road, or over the field! You're gonna see EVERYTHING!

Here's where it gets cool: The THIRD press gives you the self-defense STROBE effect! It's bright as heck and if you shine this directly at someone it is extremely disorienting!

Don't Forget About That ADJUSTABLE Focus!

I've NEVER understood why this isn't standard on every flashlight! It's so essential, but only the really quality ones seem to have it!

With the simple twist of the focusing head, you can turn a wide, flooding light into a sharp, focused one.

That means you have the option between illuminating an entire yard or hitting a specific area with a beam as bright as the Sun!

And the adjustable focus works with all the different available lighting modes too!

Seriously, this thing has it ALL!

Rechargeable Battery!
Car Charger AND Wall Charger!
Wrist Strap/Lanyard!
And It's Weather, Water & Corrosion Resistant!

This thing is HANDS DOWN the most reliable, durable, brilliant little flashlight you'll EVER use.

Once you have this in your hands, you'll never find another flashlight that compares!

There's a REASON these are the kinda ones military outfits use!

READY FOR AN UNSTOPPABLE PRICE?

Despite all the power, utility, and technology packed into these... they're only $19.97 with FREE US SHIPPING!

http://store.worldstart.com/product/9170

A full tactical rechargeable flashlight + accessory kit? For HALF the price of the competition? Yeah... you KNOW these are gonna sell out fast! Hurry over to the store!

Autumn Magic At Bond Falls

You know, I'm starting to really like Bond Falls. It's located - more or less - in the north central area of Michigan's UP, and let me tell ya - I've been there twice and pulled out a good shot each time! The first time was of the main falls, this time I went for the upper falls. In fact, back when I took the main falls I just couldn't help but think this area could really be fantastic if the timing was right in autumn. So, about 13 months later I came back…(More)

Whitetail Through The Window

This Whitetail Deer Buck was photographed in Custer State Park, SD just as the colors were starting to turn. It was early morning and we were the first (and probably only) car on the Wildlife Loop Road. In fact, I think we were a little too early - hadn't seen much - then we spotted this guy. One look at that amazing rack was all it took for me... (More)

Incoming!

This was captured at the Bosque Del Apache NWR one chilly evening as the snow geese were settling in for the night. The sun was getting pretty low in the sky and the temps were dropping rapidly. I knew I didn't have too much time left and I was blasting away at any group of snow geese I could get my lens on. They were coming in large groups and... (More)
