Quick Tip

Darrell from Sayre, Oklahoma writes:

How do you save pictures that are on computer to a DVD or CD? I'm running windows 8.1. I've saved a lot of pictures and would like to save them on a disc to access later on other computers.

Darrell, pop a blank disc into the disc drive. A box will open asking what you want to do next. Choose burn files to disc.

You'll be given the option to use the disc like a USB flash drive or with a CD/DVD player. Choose the flash drive option.

Then you can drag and drop the files you wish to copy onto the disc drive or choose to copy and paste. Select your photos and pull them onto the icon for the disc drive or copy them, click on the disc and select paste.

A simpler option might be to save the photos to a flash drive. Then you can still access them on a device that doesn't have an optical drive.

Computers 101

Liz from Massachusetts writes:

Printing takes too long in Windows 8 with switching back and forth instead of just clicking 'print' from the old menus. I've gotten used to the starting and closing process, but I like the old way better. Windows 8 is not friendly for someone just using it for banking, e-mail and shopping. OR for someone advanced in age, too much new stuff to learn!

Liz, I'm not sure which programs you're talking about, but there are quick print options in a lot of programs in Windows 8.1. If you're using Word 2013 – There's a quick print icon right up at the top of the screen.

You'll also see the print icon at the top of the screen in Internet Explorer.

And if you'd like to make printing a little easier in Outlook 2013, you can add the print icon to to the Quick Access Toolbar by selecting the drop-down arrow in the upper-left corner and choosing Print from the menu.

The reason print commands are becoming less prominent in programs is that more and more communication is going paperless. Documents are shared and stored electronically as opposed to being printed.

Hope these tips can make printing a little quicker for you.

On The Move

Betty from IL. writes "I just installed a new flat screen monitor. The right side looks darker than the left side(dusty look) running XP. Is it something to be adjusted or is it bad? Should I return it? 19″ "

Hi, Betty. Thanks for the great question.

First things first. My advice is that if you bring a monitor home from the store and it has ANYTHING wrong with it, return it immediately. Were I to hazard a guess, I would say that there's probably something wrong with the LED back light panel in this monitor that's causing half of it to be dimmer than the other half.

Having said that… I do have a few options to give to you...

From The Archives

Mary from Phoenix, AZ writes "I have Windows Vista. I have over 800 pictures in my Windows Live Photo Gallery and I would like to put them all on a memory card, like the one that fits in my digital camera. What size memory card do I need to use and also, how do I export the photos on this memory card?"

Hi, Mary.

Well, to start with the photos are not actually IN your Live Photo Gallery, photo gallery is just a way to catalog your pictures. Your pictures are actually on your hard drive in your pictures directory. Found in the image that follows:

As to your size question… have you ever heard someone say "Size doesn't matter"? Well, when it comes to your memory card, size DOES matter. A lot. But the size that you'll need is determined entirely by the amount of space that your pictures are occupying on your hard drive. Here's how you determine that...

Today's Feature

Carolyn writes:

I just received a call from Microsoft located in Las Vegas, the man had a very broken accent, telling me that I have a Microsoft Computer problem and I should be sitting at my computer for further instructions. I told him I have a Dell computer with Windows 7, but he insisted I had a Microsoft computer and was calling to fix a Microsoft problem. Are you aware of Microsoft actually contacting customers to fix a problem with Microsoft? He was very persistent and called back again after I told him I would not participate. This is probably the third call I have received. I would be very interested to know the circumstances of this call.

Carolyn, you are smart to be suspicious. To quote a very wise person, Judge Judy in fact : "If something doesn't make sense, then it's not true." Nothing about this call makes sense. How would Microsoft even have your phone number? And how would they know if there was an issue with your computer? Issues with Windows are fixed using update available in the Windows update center, not by calling people up on the phone.

You'd have a hard enough time getting in touch with someone at Microsoft if you called them for help, so they aren't calling up people at home out of the blue to fix issues on their computer. Your caller is not one of the cheerful coffee-drinking Microsoft employees the company displays in the careers section of their website, but a scammer. (most likely calling from overseas.)

Carolyn, you should report these calls to the police. This persistent scammer is targeting you. There have been reports of similar scams...

One More Big Deal

You Can't See Anything In This Weather!

Windshield Wipers Can't Do The Job Alone!

Repel-It Windshield Treatment Clears Things Up!

Convenient Wipe Lasts For Up To Six Months! No Streaking!

Car Dealers Charge Outrageous Prices For This Treatment

We've Got It For Under $5 !

You know how it is, you're driving in the rain and it looks like someone is throwing buckets of water right onto your windshield. Your windshield wipers are doing the best they can, but you still can't see a thing. IT IS DANGEROUS!

And it's not like those wipers are falling apart, you just bought them. And if you're out driving on the highway with big trucks throwing water back at you, it can be pretty darn scary.

The solutions is Repel-It Windshield Treatment. It makes your windshield hydrophobic. That means water (and the grime and gunk that can splash up on your windshield with it) will bead up and make it much easier for your windshield wipers to swoop it away.

It's not just rain that will stay away... Dust and bugs are much easier to clean off.

EVEN SNOW AND ICE will be easier to take off.

Where I live, there's a saying. If you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes. We get it all. Rain, snow, ice, sleet... We'll go from 70 degrees and rain on Wednesday to 20 degrees and snow on Friday. And let me tell you, I end up doing a lot of driving not matter what the weather is like. This treatment is absolutely perfect.

Look at the difference it makes!

TREATED UNTREATED

You could have it done at your car dealer, but look what they charge you! I grabbed this shot from an actual car dealer's website. the price starts at $29.95 and you know how they love to tack on extras.

Repel-It Windshield Treatment is only $4.97 !

This durable treatment can last for up to six months! Plus it's a wipe, so it's super easy and convenient to apply to your windshield.

Not only will this improve your vision, your wipers will last longer because they'll have a lot less work to do.

There's no bottles or applicators to fuss with! Just open the convenient package and apply the treatment with the disposable wipe for streak-free protection!

We managed to get a special deal on these, so we've got a limited quantity and at $4.97 , they won't last long.

And if your order is over $5, you get FREE US Shipping!

So click the store link below and get yours now!

Hurry! If we have any left on Thursday , the price will jump back up to $8.97 !

Stream Crossing

Why did the grizzly cross the stream? Well, it's a bit like this. I came upon these two while searching for a large male grizzly I'd encountered the day before. However, Yellowstone is never quite the same from day to day, and instead this morning she granted me…(More)

Nose To Nose

This was captured shortly after I drove into Yellowstone from Gardiner. Normally, expectations tend to be low as you make the 5 mile or so drive from Gardiner to Mammoth, but today would prove an exception to that rule. As I drove along, admiring the freshly fallen snow, I rounded a corner and spotted a group of elk congregating in an area known as the "Chinese Gardens". I wasted no time... (More)

Hard Turn

It all started when I spotted a nice group of pronghorn with a good number of seemingly frisky bucks on the side of a large hill. Initially they were wary, but it wasn't long before they were ignoring me and going about their business. There wasn't too much action at first, and I busied myself with a few snapshots of some of the better looking animals – and then a buck burst into a run after one of the females! (More)
