Cel from St. Paul, Minnesota writes: Great site, great people, two thumbs up! What is the difference between Add-ons and Add-Ins. Thanks! Cel, an Add-on often refers to a program like a tool bar or a media player flash that you can add on to your Internet browser to perform additional functions.
Add in refers to a component such as a graphics card or additional memory, that you can add to a computer to improve its capabilities. They can sometimes also be referred to as an Add-on.
Hope that clears things up. ~ Cynthia Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version

Tom from Evansville, Minnesota writes: I recently purchased your guide to Windows 8 and it's is so helpful for me as I now have Windows 8 from Win XP. The question I have is with my Facebook. I was always able with Win XP to just click on Facebook from Internet Explorer and it took me right to Facebook now with Win 8 I have to sign in each time. I have checked keep me logged in, but I still have to sign in each time. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Tom, the issue could be your settings on Internet Explorer. Click the little gear in the upper-right of Internet Explorer and choose Internet Options from the drop-down menu.
Choose Content tab and then select Settings under AutoComplete.
Make sure you've given Internet Explorer permission to remember passwords and user names.
Also, make sure to click the General tab and make sure your haven't told Internet Explorer to delete saved passwords on exit. If it's checked, uncheck it.
Hopefully, this will save you the trouble of entering your password every time you log onto Facebook. ~ Cynthia Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version Do you have a question for us? Ask it here!
Lynn writes: Hi guys,Yesterday I received notification in my in box that Microsoft wasd giving me the Windows 8.1 download free. I was directed to go to the windows store on my start panel. It was not there. I did everything they suggested, including updates, refreshing the store and making sure I had the compatible laptop with the right windows 8 all to no avail. How can I can the free version of Windows 8.1 now? Thanks so much, a loyal customer for many years.
Lynn, thanks for being such a loyal customer. Hopefully we've got a pretty simple fix for your problem. The most likely reason that you can't find the Windows 8.1 update in the Windows stores is that your Windows 8 doesn't have the latest updates. I know, confusing right? In Windows 8, updates for Apps were found in the app store, but regular Windows updates were received by doing Windows updates. However, the 8.1 update is only available in the store. If you don't have all of your Windows updates, you may not be able to download 8.1 Here's how to get those Windows 8 updates. Want more? Just click WorldStart!
Donna from Hamden, CT writes: Yesterday I purchased an Apple IMac desk top computer. It's a really big change from Windows 7. The salesperson showed me some things, but today I'm finding I can't get out of certain websites like the Slingo game I play. I don't see a home button to go to. Can you help me figure this out please?
Answer: Switching from a Windows PC to a Mac can be a great experience but it can also be very frustrating. One possible cause of websites not working on a Mac is by default Mac does not include Adobe Flash Player which is required by a lot of websites but is known to cause some system instability. I would recommended downloading it at http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html and installing it to see if that fixes your problem. Another thing you can do which is popular with some Mac users is to use Bootcamp. Head on over to WorldStart for more of this helpful tip!
The Secret To Managing Your Mac Passwords With so much information available to us, often managing the information becomes a job within itself and passwords are no exception to the rule. According to a recent study 58 percent of adults have five or more unique passwords while 30 percent of all people have more than 10 unique passwords. Lucky for Mac users OS X has a built-in password utility that makes recovering and managing those passwords a cinch. Step 1) Go to your search icon and type in Keychain Access (it should be the first one in the list)
Alternatively you can navigate directly to the utility (/Applications/Utilities/) Check out WorldStart to learn more! For stories, jokes, quotes and cartoons every day, sign up for our Just for Grins newsletter.
Chefs Feed This site offers recommendations from some of the world's greatest chefs on where to eat for 23 different locations they are Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver/Boulder, Hawaii, Houston, Las Vegas, London, Los Angelos, Miami, Montreal, New Orleans, New York City, Philadelphia, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver, and Washington DC. Which got me thinking that this site really provides an excellent way to pick somewhere to eat when you're traveling! The closest city for me on the list is Chicago and as such is set to my default, so I could use the search engine next to the City selection to find a restaurant if I were visiting. When you arrive to the site it will ask you to share your location, you don't have to and can still use the site without providing that information, you just won't get the trending dishes, or chefs for the location closest to you. Instead, you'll get the trending dishes and chefs for Chefs Feed overall which to me seems like a better idea. Another way you can navigate the site to find an awesome meal is to use the Chefs or Dishes buttons at the top of the page. Choosing Dishes allows you to filter the results by Cuisine, Neighborhood, Price and Other. Selecting Chef allows you to browse the chefs in the city you're checking out (in my case Chicago). It lists where they're working now, what's coming soon, and even in some instances where they formerly worked. Clicking a chef will let you check out their profile and what have they recommended in the city you're browsing. I think this is a really cool way to think about where to eat when you're traveling (if you don't live in one of these food meccas).
