Quick Tip

Shanker from Chennai, India writes:

I couldn't configure my email client, as I don't have the server addresses of my mail accounts.Do mail providers do display them anywhere? Where should I look for them?

Shanker, most e-mail providers do have that information available. You can usually find it on their website. Microsoft has the information for Outlook.com displayed on their site:

My local e-mail provider offers the information as a PDF. I would suggest searching the name of your e-mail provider along with server settings. You might also find the information displayed in "support" on their website. If you can't find it easily, contact customer support. They should have that information readily on hand

You Can't See Anything In This Weather!

Windshield Wipers Can't Do The Job Alone!

Repel-It Windshield Treatment Clears Things Up!

Convenient Wipe Lasts For Up To Six Months! No Streaking!

Car Dealers Charge Outrageous Prices For This Treatment

We've Got It For Under $5 !

You know how it is, you're driving in the rain and it looks like someone is throwing buckets of water right onto your windshield. Your windshield wipers are doing the best they can, but you still can't see a thing. IT IS DANGEROUS!

And it's not like those wipers are falling apart, you just bought them. And if you're out driving on the highway with big trucks throwing water back at you, it can be pretty darn scary.

The solutions is Repel-It Windshield Treatment. It makes your windshield hydrophobic. That means water (and the grime and gunk that can splash up on your windshield with it) will bead up and make it much easier for your windshield wipers to swoop it away.

It's not just rain that will stay away... Dust and bugs are much easier to clean off.

EVEN SNOW AND ICE will be easier to take off.

Where I live, there's a saying. If you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes. We get it all. Rain, snow, ice, sleet... We'll go from 70 degrees and rain on Wednesday to 20 degrees and snow on Friday. And let me tell you, I end up doing a lot of driving not matter what the weather is like. This treatment is absolutely perfect.

Look at the difference it makes!

TREATED UNTREATED

You could have it done at your car dealer, but look what they charge you! I grabbed this shot from an actual car dealer's website. the price starts at $29.95 and you know how they love to tack on extras.

Repel-It Windshield Treatment is only $4.97 !

This durable treatment can last for up to six months! Plus it's a wipe, so it's super easy and convenient to apply to your windshield.

Not only will this improve your vision, your wipers will last longer because they'll have a lot less work to do.

There's no bottles or applicators to fuss with! Just open the convenient package and apply the treatment with the disposable wipe for streak-free protection!

We managed to get a special deal on these, so we've got a limited quantity and at $4.97 , they won't last long.

And if your order is over $5, you get FREE US Shipping!

So click the store link below and get yours now!

http://store.worldstart.com/product/9337

Hurry! If we have any left on Tuesday , the price will jump back up to $8.97 !

Paint 101- Crop, Resize And Rotate Images

I recently wrote a tip explaining how shapes work in Paint and got so much positive feedback, I decided to explore the program further. Paint is a basic image editing software that comes free with Windows. In this article, I'll explain how to open a photo and use paint to crop, resize and rotate the image.

You access paint by selecting the palette icon.

If you don't see the icon, just search for paint in your Start Menu or Search Charm and choose the Paint icon from the results.

Let's say this is the photo I want to change.

Start by opening Paint and clicking either the file menu or the drop-down arrow in the upper-left of the screen. Then choose Open.

Select the image you wish to edit and choose Open.

The image will open in Paint.

Since this is clearly on its side, I'm going to rotate it by selecting the arrow beside rotate and choosing Rotate left 90 degrees from the drop-down menu. You can choose other angles of rotation or to flip the image horizontally or vertically.

Now the image appears upright.

One way to alter the image is to resize it. This can be especially helpful when you import very large images from digital cameras that are too large for e-mails or to insert in printed material. Choose Resize.

You'll have the option to change the size by Percentage or by Pixels. If maintain aspect ratio is checked, you'll be protected from accidentally stretching your image in one direction so that it appears distorted. If you need something to be a specific size and it's a pattern or solid color that wouldn't be affected by stretching in one direction or the other, you can choose not to check that option. If you resize and image and it looks like a funhouse mirror, it's probably because you didn't check Maintain aspect ratio.

Since I know the maximum size of an image that I can insert into an article is 450 pixels, I'm choosing to resize the image to be 450 pixels wide. Select OK and your image will be resized.

My image is now smaller.

You can also make images larger, but you will lose clarity in the picture.

Another option is to adjust the Skew right or left. Here I've adjusted with 20 degrees vertical skew.

Here's the resulting image. It's a useful tool for achieving certain effects.

Another helpful option is the Crop tool. To crop, you first select the shape you want to crop with. You can choose rectangular or choose to make your selection freehand.

To crop, click the left mouse button and drag it over the area you wish to select. Release the mouse button when you've finished the selection.

Select crop again.

Your photo will crop to the selection.

If you have a steady hand, you can use the freehand crop. From the example below, you can see that I do not.

These easy-to-use tools can be quite helpful.

Facebook Mail Shortcuts

Did you know Facebook Mail had its own set of keyboard shortcuts? Yeah, me either, but then again I had no idea how to access them in the first place until an accidental keystroke set me on my journey.

Join me, won't you? It's a quick trip!

First, make sure you're on the Facebook Mail page – otherwise this isn't going to work.

Now, press Alt-Q (or Control-Q if you're using a Mac)…

…and up pops a window with all the info you need!

Note: You can use this shortcut to show/hide this window any time you're on the Facebook Mail page.

Here's the whole list of PC keyboard shortcuts for all you copy/pasters:

Update Firefox Plug-ins

We've seen a lot of questions lately about plug-ins like Flash and Java not working in Firefox. That means many videos won't play and some games won't work. Some browsers, including Firefox, disable plug-ins when there are security concerns. Both Java and Firefox had serious security problems earlier in the year. I went over how to enable Flash in Firefox in this article, but here's a quick tip on making sure all of your plug-ins are up-to-date with the latest bug fixes and security patches

Depending on the version of Firefox you are using, you can either go to the drop-down menu in the upper left of the Firefox browser, select Add-ons.

Using Focal Points In Photography

Do you know what the focal point of a picture is? The next time before you take a picture, pause and ask yourself: "What is the Focal Point in this Picture?"

The other ways of asking the same question would be – What is the central point of interest? What will draw the eye of the viewers of this picture? What in this image will make it stand out from others? What is my subject?

image

A focal point is important because when you look at an image, your eye generally needs a 'resting place' or something of interest to really hold it. Without a focal point, people will jus glance at your pictures before moving on to the next one without paying any attention to them.

Focal points are important depending on what is being photographed. Street photography, for example, less relies on focal point. If, however, there is a focal point, it doesn't distract from the main objective of the photo.

An important point to keep in mind is when taking a close up of a person; the key thing to focus on is the eyes.

While selecting a focal point, keep in mind that you need to select one that gives you the composition that you desire, without having to move the camera. Allow for fine composition changes later on while cropping for print etc. The tighter the composition of your image, the sharper your focal point becomes keeping the eyes pin-sharp.

Many beginners and some intermediate level photographers fail to take advantage of adjusting the aperture for the optimal range of sharpness between the subject and the foreground/background.

Once you've identified a point of interest or focal point, ask yourself how it can be enhanced.

Here are six techniques to enhance the focal point in an image:
