Matt if you are using Windows Vista you can only go up to Internet Explorer 9. It sounds like you are trying to update to Internet Explorer 11. That version is only compatible with Windows 8.1. Here 's a list of which versions of IE work with which operating systems: Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1,Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 7 Internet Explorer 11 Windows 8, Windows RT, Windows 7 Internet Explorer 10 Windows Vista Internet Explorer 9 Windows XP Internet Explorer 8 There's nothing you can do to upgrade past IE 9 with Vista. Though you could try either the Chrome or Firefox browsers if you are having issues with a particular website. ~ Cynthia Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version

Karen from Idaho writes: I want to get rid of the stupid charm bar in and especially the "clock" that keeps popping up in my way. The charm bar needs to be transparent not wipe out what you are trying to read and made narrower. And the clock can go completely after all it is down in the corner of the screen! I have found no way to shut it off. Nor have I found a way to narrow the charms bar and make it transparent. When I want it is when it decides to hide completely. And after 7 months I still hate Win 8 and advise others not to purchase. Karen, the Charms Bar is only supposed to display when you select it and it should disappear as soon as you click or tap off it. You activate them in one of two ways. Either by swiping from the right or by moving your mouse or touchpad pointer to the upper or lower right corner.
Try to keep your mouse away from the very far right corners and stay away from the very far right of your touchpad when you're using Windows 8.1. It sounds like you are accidentally activating it. I've not experienced this issue myself with Windows 8.1, but it seems some touchpads on certain computer models are very sensitive. But don't worry, it's really easy to turn off... Head on over to WorldStart for the rest of this helpful tip.
Reply vs. Reply All Using email seems like the easiest way to collaborate with a group. It can, however, be confusing (and potentially embarassing) if you do not effectively use your 'reply' and 'reply all' function.
Reply should be used when you want to send a message in reply to one person. With an email sent to mutliple people, hitting reply will send your email to the most recent sender. For example, Sharon receives an email from Bob that was sent to her and her friend, Linda. Before she saw the email, Linda did a 'reply all' that said 'Sounds good to me!' If Sharon hits reply, only Linda will receive her email. Reply All should be used when you want to send a message in reply to the entire group. Do not use this for personal comments that should/do not need to be seen by the other users involved in the conversation. Different email programs use different options, but here are a few examples of where to find the options... Just click WorldStart for more of this tip! Eugene from Chino California asked us: "Is there a simplified tree, maybe in several pages, to show what is in Windows 7 in such things as the control panel or any of the solution devices which are used for maintaining a PC?" We thought that was a great idea and decided to do a special series. In part one we looked at System and Security. In part two we checked out Network and Internet. Part three was Hardware and Software. Part four was Programs. In part five we saw User Accounts and Family Safety. Part six was occupied with Appearance and Personalization. For part seven, we've got a look at Clock, Language and Region Settings:

Geekosystem This site just recently came onto my radar via a friend who shared an article from it over Facebook. I went to explore that article and found a whole site devoted to bringing you the latest geek news and information technology and entertainment. Plus they share links to lots of cool geek stuff. When you arrive at the site you'll find the latest featured materials on the main page with a navigation strip along the top. The places you can navigate to are Tech, Entertainment, Science, Gaming, Space, Weird, Features, Podcast, and Latest. You'll also find a search field to the far right of the menu. While I was there one of the featured articles was about a nature documentary narrated by David Tennant featuring a spy turtle. I hope this documentary cross over to BBC America at some point so I can watch it. There were also articles on NASA, Minecraft, Mars One and more. I don't recommend that you let kids poke around the site unsupervised; I didn't see anything that was too risque, but there were topics like drugs, and some topics had mild profanity. It's definitely a site geared towards adult geeks and not baby geeks! But there was so many cool things, that I really wanted to share it with all of you. Go check it out today! ~Amanda Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version Do you have a cool, non-commercial site that you want to share?Send it to Amanda at amanda@worldstart.com
