Quick Tip

Toby from Plano, Texas writes:

I wish you had also told us how we could have certain emails permanently moved to spam. I get 2-3 messages from different people but the @ area is the same spot. Hope you understand what I am asking.

Toby, unfortunately there's no way to make sure you don't ever receive Spam. You don't say which mail provider or mail client you're using, but make sure you take the time to mark these spam e-mails as junk or spam, depending on how your particular services works. This is how the spam filter learns which mails are unwanted. You can also block these e-mail addresses, often when you mark something as spam you are given the option to block the address.

We have a lot of tips that get more in-depth into Spam and how to prevent it. Click here to learn more.

It WILL Happen To Everyone!

Backups Are The ONLY Way To Prevent Losing Your Data!

"But Steve... It's a PAIN To Backup!!"

NOT ANYMORE!

The Lexar Echo 16GB Backup Drive!

It Does EVERYTHING For You!

Completely Automatic Backups!

Let The Flash Drive Do All The Work!

Plug It In! You're 99% Done!

(It Even Shows How Much Space You've Used!)

Hard Drives ALWAYS Crash!

There's only a few guarantees in life. Your hard drive crashing is one of those guarantees.

When they go, they take EVERYTHING they had with 'em!

AND THAT ALMOST ALWAYS SPELLS DISASTER!

What do you do when your hard drive crashes?

Well, there's two possible reactions...

If you guessed the one on the right... correct!

Why's she so happy? Because getting all her files back was THIS easy:

You simply take your handy Lexar 16GB back up flash drive and plug it into any computer. It automatically loads the files you backed up and you can get them ready to use again.

You don't lose a single file, and you don't spend the weekend wishing you had printed those vacation photos that you'll never get back.

Who would YOU prefer to be in that scenario?

There's only ONE reason not to back up data:

It USED to be hard.

It took a lot of time, it took expensive hardware or software, and it took some tech-savvy. You had to know file extensions, directories, the whole works.

NOT ANYMORE!

It's literally as easy as clicking your mouse!

See below:

The Lexar 16GB Instant Backup Flash Drive!

NO extra software. NO long set up. NO time consuming steps. All you do is plug it in and pick what you need to backup!

Could it BE any easier?

The first time you pop it in, it lets you choose automatic or specific folders. That's all there is to it! Your files are backed up and you're safe from disaster!

What's great is that it keeps ALL of your directories and folders right in the order you have them on your PC. So you'll know EXACTLY where to find them on the flash drive or after you back them up to another PC!

Think about everything you have on your computer: TONS of photos. ALL of your favorite music. Family videos and contact information.

How about work documents, important files, sensitive documents. Even your passwords, e-mails, favorite web pages... EVERYTHING!

After a crash, you can't get those photos back. The videos are now distant memories. And your passwords? Good luck remembering the ones you haven't had to type in for years.

BUT IF IT'S BACKED UP, YOU WON'T LOSE ANYTHING! PERIOD!

And with backing up this easy, you won't even have to think about it!

This DEFINES User Friendly!

Ultra Sleek, Ultra Secure, ULTRA FAST!

It looks, feels, and acts just like your standard flash drive (of course, standard flash drives can't hold a candle to this one) so you know it's gonna be easy and lightweight to move or store.

Plus, it has a retractable connector so you ALSO know it's gonna stay safe from any potential accidents!

IT WORKS JUST LIKE A REGULAR FLASH DRIVE TOO!

That's right - Just drag and drop files to it and use it like any other flashdrive! Talk about the best of both worlds!!

Take it anywhere! Back up any PC or laptop! Use it for EVERYTHING!

And if you're looking for fast, this thing is gonna BLOW YOU AWAY!

This flash drive is part of the Lexar "Ultra" series, their fastest USB 2.0 drives out there.

Simply put? USB 2.0 has NEVER been faster!

Last but not least: IT'S SECURE!

When you back up anything on this drive, you can choose to encrypt it and guard it with a password of your choice! Nobody but you or those you trust get access to YOUR files.

So all your tax, financial, and confidential documents? You can back them up too without worrying! FINALLY!

All those passwords on your PC don't mean a thing if you don't have SECURE backups.

But with this Lexar, it's not a problem.

A Backup Drive For UNDER $19! WOW!

If you go anywhere to try and get a backup drive, you'll be looking $40 for the BARE MINIMUM! And those are bulky, heavy external hard drives that you really can't move or store.

I'd like to add... the ones I got in to test have quickly became my new backup drives for my photos and music. They're just so easy and useful!

You will NOT find a faster, more convenient backup drive out there for just $18.97 with FREE US SHIPPING anywhere else!

These are simply one of the coolest devices I've ever seen. PLEASE don't miss out on this deal. We only have so many and once they're gone... that's it.

Computers 101

Mark writes:

I have Windows XP and I was wondering when XP support ends, will I have to purchase a new computer?

That depends on your computer. It may be possible for you to upgrade to Windows 7 or 8.

System requirements for Windows 7 are at least 1GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor , 1GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit), 16 GB available hard drive space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit) and DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver .

System requirements for Windows 8 are 1 GHz or faster processor with support for PAE, NX and SSE2, 1GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit), free drive space of 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit) and Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM drive. You will also need a screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768 and an Internet connection to access the Windows Store. Plus a Microsoft Account may be required for some purposes.

You can check your device's compatibility with the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor by clicking here.

Or its compatibility with Windows 8 by clicking here. On this page, you'll see both the Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant and the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant. The 8.1 Upgrade Assistant won't work with XP – but the Windows 8 assistant should. The requirements for 8 and 8.1 are virtually identical.

Time again for the reminder that official Microsoft support Windows XP ends on April 8, 2014. That means no more security updates or bug fixes for XP. That also means that third-party security programs cannot guarantee the safety of Windows XP and the system is expected to be a big target for viruses and malware.

On The Move

iOS7 Control Your Control Center

Those out there that have upgraded to iOS7 know about the Control Center already. Just swipe up from the bottom of your screen and get instant access to your iDevice's basic controls (camera, screen brightness, Bluetooth, timer, music controls, etc.).

Pretty neat, huh?

…but did you also know that the Control Center can be accessed from the lock screen by default? Yep – this means that at any time your nosy nephew with the sticky peanut butter fingers can flip switches, turn things off and take pictures of the ground at his leisure. No good.

The minds at Apple knew stuff like this was going to happen, though, so they made it possible to limit access to the Control Center – just in case.

How do you do it?

From The Archives

Question: I read the article on turning off autocomplete. This would work fine on my desktop, but not on my Samsung Galaxy 2 Smartphone. So, how would you make it work on this kind of phone as more and more people are using this type of phone over a desktop?

Good question – here's the way to do it for most Android phones. Find Settings – it is usually represented by a gear symbol on your menu. Then select Language and Keyboards.

Choose Keyboard Settings...

OneNote App Adds Scanning, Text Conversion

Microsoft has a big update for for the OneNote App in Windows 8.1. This handy little notebook application is available for PC and phones, but is especially useful on a touchscreen device like a Surface Pro or the Dell Venue. If you don't already use OneNote, you can find it in the Windows Store for free.

Among the new features for Windows 8.1 users is the ability to capture a screen by using the share charm. So, say I wanted to capture this webpage or something from another app to save in a note.

All I need to do is swipe from the right or click the top right corner and choose the Share Charm

Then you'll have several options for sharing the page, including OneNote.

Polar Bear Shaking Off

This image is one of a series where this big 'ole Polar Bear emerged from a snow bank and decided to take a stroll around our Polar Rover. He had already brushed off once, so I really wasn't expecting it when he paused for a moment mid-stride and gave a giant shake! He looked like a big dog just coming out of a bath – a snow bath in this instance! My favorite part…(More)

Winter in Bryce Canyon, Utah. It's cold. Like 20 degrees below zero, but it felt like more like forty below from an aggressive wind biting at your face. And I decide it might be fun to go out and shoot some star photos :) Fortunately, I had plenty of arctic gear with me and that made all the difference in the world. My hands were always cold from...
