Quick Tip

Dennis from NJ writes:

Hello,if I replace my older system XP,with Linux Ubuntu will I still have my icons from my desk top,etc ? Please advise of such before I install.

Dennis, you will still have icons on your desktop, but they will not be the same icons you have with your XP system. Linux Ubuntu or any other version of Linux is a completely different operating system.

Any files or programs you wish to keep from XP, you will need to transfer to a drive and then move the files back to your computer once the Linux installation is complete. Linux does not run Windows programs, so you will need to find Linux compatible versions of programs you use or install a Windows emulator that will allow you to run some Windows programs.

Got a Camera? Phone? iPod? MP3 Player?

There's NO Question: YOU NEED A CASE!

Just $4.97 To Protect From BIG Damage!

Don't Get Stuck Buying A New One Because It Broke!

Neoprene Protects WITHOUT Risking Scratches!

Don't Go With Inferior Cases!

Lowepro Does It Best... AND IT'S ONLY $4.97!!

You Can't Go Wrong (Unless You Skip This Deal!)

Smart Phones, cameras, iPods and all of those nifty little electronic devices have two things in common:

Number One: They're EXPENSIVE! You can easily pay $300 for a phone with all the bells and whistles.

Number Two: They're DELICATE! It doesn't take much to scratch or break them and good luck trying to get them repaired.

You know how it goes, you've got a sharp new camera in your pocket and you bend over to pick something up.

All of the sudden you hear that awful CRASHING sound of your new toy hitting the ground.

Maybe you also hear the horrible sound of that supposedly shatter-proof glass shattering on the ground.

IT MAKES YOU WANT TO SCREAM!

You could buy a bulky padded case, but that sort of defeats the purpose of paying all that money for a compact device you could carry with you.

What are you supposed to do?

Well, today is your lucky day, cause I've got the perfect solution! And it's only $4.97!

Check out this amazing Lowepro case! The sturdy Neoprene construction protects your small electronics from scratches, scuffs and impact without adding bulk.

The handy caribiner clip means it fastens easily to belt loops, purses, back packs and more.

The magnetic closure makes it super-easy to open and close.

Your camera or phone is right there where you need it, but it's PROTECTED. You don't have to sacrifice convenience for safety!

Perfect for outdoor activities and vacations, or just keeping that delicate touch screen from being scratched by your pocket change or something in your purse!

Versatile size works with everything from smartphones to cameras to iPods! At this price, why not buy more than one?

And if you're handing out points for style this sharp, sleek case really scores!

High quality and high style in one dynamite little package. So what's the catch? Well, we've got a limited quanity and this price will only last for a limited time.

Only $4.97!!

We'll even sweeten the deal with FREE U.S. SHIPPING on all orders over $5!

http://store.worldstart.com/product/9489

Grab a few of these now! On Monday the price is headed back up to $9.97 !

Sony Gets Out Of The PC Business

Sony is getting out of the PC business, selling their Vaio laptop business to a group called Japan Industrial Partners. In a statement, the company said they plan to concentrate on smartphones and tablets.

That's not a surprise since according to a new study by NPD DisplaySearch, tablet shipments are expected to be over 300 million units in 24, meaning they'll make up more than 60% of the personal computing market. Sales of laptops have dropped sharply as tablets increase in popularity. Around 150 million laptops shipped in 2013 as compared to nearly 250 million tablets.

Cost is a big factor. The average tablet price still hovers around the $300 range while the average laptop costs double that, almost $700.

Sony says that it will stop planning, designing and developing all PC products as part of the deal and that manufacturing and distribution of PCs will be discontinued after the launch of the spring 2014 line-up of products. The company says the Sony customers will continue to receive aftercare customer service.

Sony also announced that it will be shifting the focus of its television business towards high end models with plans to reinforce the company's position in the 4K market.

A few hundred employees are expected to find work at with Japan Industrial Partners, but around 5,000 workers will lose their jobs. The new company will concentrate on marketing laptops within Japan, so it's likely that the Vaio brand may not be available outside that market.

How To Manage Files On Your Android Tablet

Gary from Rhode Island writes:

How do I find out the names of the files on my tablet? And then access a given file?

Downloads app

If you have been using a computer for any length of time, you will probably have become accustomed to accessing your files with a traditional folder management system in Windows or OS X. You create, or download files, and then store them on your desktop or in a folder somewhere so that you can get to them when you need them.

However things are not quite as simple on an Android tablet. At least, not at first.

Here's what you need ot know...

Question: My friend gave me a CD of a computer program to make cards and posters. It was a brand new CD still wrapped in plastic. When I put it in my computer, it asked for a product key and gave me a box to type a code in. What is a product key and how do I find it?

A product key is a combination of letters and numbers that is used to unlock or open software. Each individual copy has its own unique product key. They look something like this.

The product key may be located inside the program's box or case or printed or applied as a sticker to the front or back of a the envelope the disc came in (also known as a sleeve).

For downloaded software, they may be...

PS4 Vs. Xbox One: Not Just For Gaming

So… you've got your brand new PS4 or Xbox One, and you know that you can play games with it, but what ELSE can you do? We've grown so used to smart devices that we just don't want a device that only does one thing anymore. PS3 and Xbox 360 have both gotten us spoiled to using our devices for everything. Personally, I use my PS3 to watch Blu-ray movies and Netflix instant as well as playing games. I also use the Playstation network to download free game downloads and game media. So what can you do on these consoles besides game?

The biggest change for Playstation users will be the end of free online gaming. We have grown used to this with our PS3′s, and I'll say that I will miss it terribly. Starting with the PS4, you will only be able to game online if you are a Playstation Plus member. The good news is that it's relatively inexpensive, at about $14 for three months or $50 per year. Along with online gaming, Playstation Plus gives you a TON of freebies and discounts, including free wallpapers and games (including over recent months, Borderlands 2, Bioshock 2 and Bioshock Infinite and Resident Evil's Umbrella Chronicles HD) and discounts on most of their other items. PS Plus also gives you access to game videos, avatars and themes, both discounted and free.

SHARED APPS

Amazon Instant Video, Crackle, Hulu Plus, Netflix, Redbox Instant and Vudu, all PPU or on-demand video services. I don't think that any of them require too much explanation. They're all pretty well-known at this point.

In addition to this, they each have a dedicated video service (Xbox Video on Xbox One and Video Unlimited on PS4) and a music service (Xbox Music and Music Unlimited).

Greatist

I think if you were to guess what some of the most popular New Year's Resolutions are that you would find among them the goal to lose weight, get fit, and become healthier. I know I've made that resolution before, and all my friends have too.

However, we're well on our way to March and how many of us have fallen off the "get healthier" wagon? I know I have! My goal wasn't even terribly complex – I just want to drink more water. And I do great when I'm not at home. It's easy to drink water on my commute and at school. But at home I tend to fail. So I was looking for some inspiration.

I found Greatist. And I'm taking you directly to their About page because I think it is important that you get their mission message frontloaded. This site takes all the prescriptive, fat-shaming/skinny-shaming, fad preaching and tosses it out the window with the message that they celebrate what means healthy to you.

Your next stop should totally be this page where you'll discover even more about the site, and how they source their content. It also answers the question What is a Greatist?

After that I fully encourage you to run free all over the site to find the inspirational – get healthy content that makes you happy. I like the emotional health content a lot! One of the featured articles is about celebrating friendship on Valentine's instead of love. What a great way to deepen the bonds of friendship between you and your circle of friends!

I also think it is really cool that they highlight a Recipe of the Day and a Workout of the Day. It totally exposes you to new things you might want to try.

Go discover this site that puts the inspiration back in getting healthy.

"The Tiniest LAN Adapter On The Planet!"

Small As A Penny - But As Powerful As They Come!

You've Never Seen A Wireless Network Adapter This Small...

Or This Freakishly Fast!!!

We're Talking 3X Faster Than Your Old Wireless Internet!!

The Most Secure Wireless Ever Too!!

WOW! - The Future Of Wireless Network Adapters!

Works With ANY Wireless Network!

I can't believe this incredible 802.11n Wireless Adapter that I've just found!! Not only is this the fastest and most secure wireless network adapter on the planet, but it's the smallest too!!

Don't let it's small size fool you though...this baby is packed with speed and power!!

First off - you're going to absolutely love how small this little guy is!

Just the size of a penny!!!

After it's plugged into your USB port, it sticks out not even a 1/4 inch, instead of up to 3 or more inches like a typical LAN Adapter.

This is the tiniest LAN Adapter on the PLANET!

So, how does that help you?? Good question!!

If you use a laptop - you don't have to worry about a huge adapter hanging out the side. Plus...this little guy won't cover up other USB ports either ...since its design is super narrow!! You also don't have to worry about accidentally disconnecting it - AND - it won't get in the way if you're plugging in other devices to your USB ports.

OR...

Do you use a desktop PC??

You're going to love this too!! You can conveniently place this LAN adapter in a USB port that is behind your computer and it can still set close to the wall or the desk. This will help you to free up a USB port on the front of your computer for flash drives, card readers, or any other device. You can even keep it in a front USB port if you want to- and you won't have to worry about accidentally unplugging it, since it's so tiny!!!

Oh, but it just keeps getting better...

So, what's the difference between this and the older b/g adapters? Why is 802.11n sooooo incredibly cool?

Speed baby. Speed. (OK, and security too)

In the bad old days (like a few months ago), if you had an 802.11g adapter, you'd be stuck cruising along at 54Mbps. This bad boy does an amazing 150Mbps!

That means no matter WHAT kinda net you have - this is gonna let you get TOP speeds!

Bottom line - It's FASTER. It's BETTER!

Plus it's really secure - it complies with all the latest alphabet soup standards and is backward compatible with the old ones - 64/128 Bit WEP, WPA, WPA2 - you're covered!

How's it work? Just pop it into your USB port! That's it - you can be up and running in MINUTES!

Receives power from the USB port - no additional power plug or cable required
Compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 hardware
Backwards compatible with 802.11b/g equipment
Delivers robust 802.11n wireless networking
Supports data rates of up to 150 Mbps! WOW!!
Supports 64/128-bit WEP, WPA, WPA2 wireless data encryption

If you want the best wireless networking money can buy - this is it! Connect it to an "n" network and be prepared to be floored! You'll be amazed at just how fast a wireless network can be!

Your price for this compact, super fast little guy? We're talking just $10.97 and US Shipping is FREE!

King Of The Arctic

This was captured in the last hour of Polar Bear photography we had up near Churchill Canada. We had spotted this guy while he slumbered in a snow drift and we were lucky all the way around. First, we were lucky he decided to stand up at all – they can happily lounge around for hours and hours. A bit like my kids in fact, but I digress…(More)

Doe's First Winter

had been out tromping through the snow all morning at a local park and was heading back to the 'ol truck when I spotted this little gal. She was a bit shy at first, but it didn't take too long for her to start to get a bit curious about me and come over to investigate. After all, it's not every day you see a guy with three extra legs (tripod) and a huge extra eye (camera / lens). I could see... (More)

Hocking Hills Cascading Creek

This was taken one misty morning in Hocking Hills State Park. We were hiking through the Old Man's Cave area and couldn't help but notice the creek that flowed through the gorge looked especially spectacular this particular AM. So, I scampered over some rocks and... (More)
