Quick Tip

Judy from Arizona writes:

I can't find my contact list in Windows 7 or 8 Outlook.com. I am using Internet Explorer 8. Is there a way to download my emails to my hard drive?

Judy, Internet Explorer 8 is at the root of your difficulties here.

Outlook.com (and some other online e-mail services) will not display correctly in Internet Explorer 8. Since you have Window 7 and Windows 8 on your computers, you can easily upgrade by going here. It's also pretty easy to download emails to your hard drive. If the Windows Live Mail e-mail client isn't already included with your computer, you can download it for free by going here.

Still Pluggin' That Camera Into Your Computer?

Say It Ain't So!

Join Us In THIS Century Doin' It The EASY Way!

It's SO SIMPLE! POP, STICK, PLUG and PLAY

LOL - You're still hooking your devices up to your computer!

Know what I saw the other day? I actually saw a guy hooking his camera up to his computer to download photos! Helllloooooo - why on earth would you NOT use a card reader?

Anyone who's ever used a card reader to transfer their photos from a memory card to a computer NEVER goes back to the old, "Golly gee, let me hook my camera up to the computer" method!

I mean, why would you? Compared to using a card reader, attaching the camera to the computer is an amazing hassle - you need to find the stupid cords, make sure the stupid battery is charged (or worse, you need to have the camera plugged in - and find the cord for that), and get the whole stupid setup to work with the chintzy software they gave you!

That's NUTS! It's like riding a unicycle with a flat tire to the mall instead of taking a car!

What's wrong with you?

STOP torturing yourself already!

OK, since I tend to short circuit anytime I see someone transferring photos with a camera instead of a card reader, I thought, hey, what the heck - let's solve that little problem for all our subscribers - and do it on the cheap!

So by using a surprisingly small combination of threats, begging, and blackmail, I was able to snag an amazing deal on a Digital Concepts USB 2.0 SD/SDHC/MMC Card Reader/Writer!

Sure, I may end up spending a few nights at the county jail (something about extortion being just south of legal), but YOU snag an amazing card reader for just $1.97! Yeah I know - it's insane!

This little card reader is going to brighten your photographic life in ways you, quite frankly, never thought of. When you discover how much better photo transfers can really be, you'll be pounding your head into the wall crying...

"Oh the wasted years!"

How's it work? Simply pop the SD (or MMC or SDHC) card out of your camera, slip it into this reader, and plug the whole shebang into your computer.

That's it!

A window will open with all your camera's photos on it - just drag and drop to the folder of your choice, or use your photo software to import your images.

Heck - it even comes with a cord in case you have one of those "hard to reach" USB ports (I hate those - but kudos to manufacturer for thinking about it)!

See? No cables, no battery worries, no power connections - NO HASSLE!

I shoot gobs of photos and let me tell ya - only crazy people still hook their camera up to their PC! Join us here in this century and grab this killer card reader for just $1.97!!

http://store.worldstart.com/product/8778

PS - This bad boy will jump back up in price Tuesday (a price that would still embarrass the big box stores), so make sure you RACE to the site and grab this today!

Computers 101

Eugene from Chino California asked us: "Is there a simplified tree, maybe in several pages, to show what is in Windows 7 in such things as the control panel or any of the solution devices which are used for maintaining a PC?"

We thought that was a great idea and decided to do a special series. Last week we looked at System and Security. In this article we'll look at Network and Internet.

Next week, we'll look at hardware and sound.

On The Move

Gary from California writes:

I use a MacBook Pro, and am trying to find out how to reverse a display change in Safari that just showed up one day, without any action on my part that I can recall. I now have a column that I don't want, apparently named 'Reading List', It takes about 20% of my screen, which makes it impossible to read most copy margin-to-margin at the text size that I find comfortable. There are instructions for adding to this list, but I have yet to find instructions about how to remove it or hide it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Safari's Reading List makes it easy to save pages and articles that you'd like to read later. It's a little like a bookmark and a little bit like a reader such as Pulse. If you'd prefer not to have that column displayed, it's easy enough to get rid of.

From The Archives

Question: When I bring up my start menu, I don't see my list of programs, like my word processor. Everything is gone, how do I get my word processor on the list, as well as my other programs that I use frequently?

Answer: You don't say which version of Windows you're using, but for Windows 7 and Vista, it's a pretty easy fix. Right-click on the icon for the program you want in your Start Menu and select "Pin to Start Menu."

I would also suggest right-clicking on the Start Menu and selecting "Properties."

You'll get the window below. Check and make sure that you've selected "Store and display recently opened programs in the Start Menu," if you want your recently used items to appear automatically.

Google Newsstand Brings News & Magazines Together

Google is bringing together all of your news and magazine apps in one place called the Google Play Newsstand. The Newsstand replaces the Google Currents app and Play Magazines and combines them into one. The section of the Play store where you shop for magazine and news subscriptions has also been renamed Newsstand.

Amazon and Apple already feature similar stores. The idea is to combine free and paid subscription content in one convenient place. When you purchase a magazine or newspaper subscription in the Newsstand section of the Play store, you are giving the option of adding the content to Newsstand app.

If you have an app for a newspaper or magazine, it will still function as a standalone app, but you will also have the option to add it to the Newsstand. When you open the Newsstand app, you'll see the Read Now section which features materials based on your subscriptions and your past reading habits. As you read more material in the app, Google will learn your reading habits and attempt to showcase articles it believes you will find interesting.

Night Sky Panorama of the Bonneville Salt Flats

I found another great panorama I couldn't wait to share with you. This one is of the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

Having lived in urban locations my entire life, I'm always amazed to see how many stars are in the sky in other places. It's just so breathtaking and otherworldly. I've added this to my bucket list of must-see places.

It will take the panorama moment to load in the meantime why don't you scroll down the page and read about the Bonneville Salt Flats, and maybe even open up the other panorama of the salt flats at dusk to get it loading too!

Once the panorama has loaded, you can use your mouse to move around the image. Just drag up, down, or side to side to view the whole thing. My favorite view is to position it so I can't see the ground. Instead all I see are stars!

The panorama at dusk was filmed just one hour prior to the one at night and for me it was amazing to see how much of a difference just an hour makes! The stars are faint and the land is silhouetted in an orange glow.

Go check them out for yourself!

Death From Above

I really love Coyotes. I know, not everyone is a fan, but I can't help it - they're one of my favorite animals. I think the reason for this favoritism might be the aerial pounce they sometimes use when pursuing prey. Their approach is decidedly cat-link in its execution. For example... I discovered this Coyote on our way back from lunch. I spotted him and quickly pulled over, hoping he'd …(More)

Wait, wait, no I love it.

Polar Bear And Cubs On The Coast

We spotted these guys out on the ice and weren't very optimistic that they would get anywhere near us. To our surprise, they decided to come in and take a closer look. Although they never really approached near enough for a good closeup, I was still able to... (More)
