Facebook Boosts News In Feeds

With more and more people counting on their Facebook news feed as a source for current events, Facebook has announced a plan to boost the placement of news articles in feeds, especially on mobile devices.

They promises a greater emphasis on news, current events and sports stories and also bumping up the position of news stories with fresh comments. That may result in you seeing the same post reappear in your feed, but Facebook says it's because they want to lead to more conversations between friends about content.

Posts will also feature related content from other sites.

eBay CEO Says Amazon Drones Are A Fantasy

In a television interview, eBay CEO John Donahue said that Amazon's drone delivery plan was a long-term fantasy" and that eBay was focused on things they could do today. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos previously said that he expects to have drone delivery in place by 2015.

It WILL Happen To Everyone!

Backups Are The ONLY Way To Prevent Losing Your Data!

"But Steve... It's a PAIN To Backup!!"

NOT ANYMORE!

The Lexar Echo 16GB Backup Drive!

It Does EVERYTHING For You!

Completely Automatic Backups!

Let The Flash Drive Do All The Work!

Plug It In! You're 99% Done!

(It Even Shows How Much Space You've Used!)

Hard Drives ALWAYS Crash!

There's only a few guarantees in life. Your hard drive crashing is one of those guarantees.

When they go, they take EVERYTHING they had with 'em!

AND THAT ALMOST ALWAYS SPELLS DISASTER!

What do you do when your hard drive crashes?

Well, there's two possible reactions...

If you guessed the one on the right... correct!

Why's she so happy? Because getting all her files back was THIS easy:

You simply take your handy Lexar 16GB back up flash drive and plug it into any computer. It automatically loads the files you backed up and you can get them ready to use again.

You don't lose a single file, and you don't spend the weekend wishing you had printed those vacation photos that you'll never get back.

Who would YOU prefer to be in that scenario?

There's only ONE reason not to back up data:

It USED to be hard.

It took a lot of time, it took expensive hardware or software, and it took some tech-savvy. You had to know file extensions, directories, the whole works.

NOT ANYMORE!

It's literally as easy as clicking your mouse!

See below:

The Lexar 16GB Instant Backup Flash Drive!

NO extra software. NO long set up. NO time consuming steps. All you do is plug it in and pick what you need to backup!

Could it BE any easier?

The first time you pop it in, it lets you choose automatic or specific folders. That's all there is to it! Your files are backed up and you're safe from disaster!

What's great is that it keeps ALL of your directories and folders right in the order you have them on your PC. So you'll know EXACTLY where to find them on the flash drive or after you back them up to another PC!

Think about everything you have on your computer: TONS of photos. ALL of your favorite music. Family videos and contact information.

How about work documents, important files, sensitive documents. Even your passwords, e-mails, favorite web pages... EVERYTHING!

After a crash, you can't get those photos back. The videos are now distant memories. And your passwords? Good luck remembering the ones you haven't had to type in for years.

BUT IF IT'S BACKED UP, YOU WON'T LOSE ANYTHING! PERIOD!

And with backing up this easy, you won't even have to think about it!

This DEFINES User Friendly!

Ultra Sleek, Ultra Secure, ULTRA FAST!

It looks, feels, and acts just like your standard flash drive (of course, standard flash drives can't hold a candle to this one) so you know it's gonna be easy and lightweight to move or store.

Plus, it has a retractable connector so you ALSO know it's gonna stay safe from any potential accidents!

IT WORKS JUST LIKE A REGULAR FLASH DRIVE TOO!

That's right - Just drag and drop files to it and use it like any other flashdrive! Talk about the best of both worlds!!

Take it anywhere! Back up any PC or laptop! Use it for EVERYTHING!

And if you're looking for fast, this thing is gonna BLOW YOU AWAY!

This flash drive is part of the Lexar "Ultra" series, their fastest USB 2.0 drives out there.

Simply put? USB 2.0 has NEVER been faster!

Last but not least: IT'S SECURE!

When you back up anything on this drive, you can choose to encrypt it and guard it with a password of your choice! Nobody but you or those you trust get access to YOUR files.

So all your tax, financial, and confidential documents? You can back them up too without worrying! FINALLY!

All those passwords on your PC don't mean a thing if you don't have SECURE backups.

But with this Lexar, it's not a problem.

A Backup Drive For UNDER $19! WOW!

If you go anywhere to try and get a backup drive, you'll be looking $40 for the BARE MINIMUM! And those are bulky, heavy external hard drives that you really can't move or store.

I'd like to add... the ones I got in to test have quickly became my new backup drives for my photos and music. They're just so easy and useful!

You will NOT find a faster, more convenient backup drive out there for just $18.97 with FREE US SHIPPING anywhere else!

These are simply one of the coolest devices I've ever seen. PLEASE don't miss out on this deal. We only have so many and once they're gone... that's it.

Computers 101

Charles from New York writes:

Thanks for all the info re the demise of Windows XP. What I am concerned about is, even if my XP running computer will work with Windows 7 or 8, what about my programs which, as far as I know, are all XP type programs. is there any way I will be able to use them as I have a great deal of data in each of them and need some of them for business? Thanks for any information or suggestions you can give me.

Charles, the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor will check compatibility with Windows 7. You can check 8.1 compatibility by clicking the Compatibility Center and entering the names of the programs you'd like to check.

The results will show if the program is compatible or if action is needed.

You can click on the Action Recommended icon to see what steps you can take to use the program. In this case, buying a newer version of the software.

If programs are compatible, you'll need to have the original program discs, because upgrading to Windows 7 or 8 is a clean install and you'll be overwriting the system. All of that important data will need to backed up on an external drive or in the cloud and then transferred back to your computer.

Even if you need to get a Windows 7 or 8 compatible version of a program you now use, it's possible that your data can be converted to work with those newer programs or be saved in a format that will allow it to be transferred. Most document and spreadsheet files can be converted for use in newer programs.

I'm not sure which specific programs you're worried about, but your best resource for that type of information may be the company that developed the program.

Microsoft And NORAD Team Up To Track Santa

Fun fact: did you know that the North American Aerospace Defense Command began tracking Santa Claus after a misprint in an ad caused children to call NORAD looking the jolly old elf.

NORAD has been tracking Santa online for many years now and now they hope to improve the experience by teaming up with Microsoft for a new Santa Tracker website and the free NORAD Tracks Santa app, available in the Windows Store, iTunes and Google Play Store.

You can visit Santa's Village to learn and play games.

Tapping on the library will let you learn facts about Santa and how his sled works and also information about holiday traditions from around the world. There's even a running tally of the world's current population.

Software... Firmware... Hardware...

… three things that sound dirty but aren't? No. Well, yes… but more importantly, they're computer terms that you may have heard, but may not be 100% clear on the meanings of. So let's start with the easier two of the three…

SOFTWARE: Programs. Windows, Office, World of Warcraft. Anything that you install on your computer and run is software, so called because there's really nothing to it but code. Nothing really exists of software in the real world, it's all just bits and bytes on your hard drive, and yet it allows us to do such wonderful things! Forget Harry Potter, this is the real magic for me.

HARDWARE: Motherboard, hard drive, CD drive, monitor. Anything that exists in the real world that is part of your computer or something that you add on to the computer is hardware. Hardware is literally what makes your machine run, because without it there would be nothing for the software to run on.

FIRMWARE: Firmware is the programming that makes your hardware go. A more common term for firmware is "drivers", because these are the things that "drive" your hardware. So when you hear about a camera or something requiring a "firmware update", that's what this means… there's a modification of the program that runs your camera that will make it run better or fix some glitch with the previous version of the programming.

Now here are a couple of "wares" that you may have heard but aren't clear on at no extra charge...

Street View Treks: Venice

Venice is on my list of must-see places when I eventually visit Europe. Until then I'm going to settle for this awesome Google Maps Street View Trek through the Streets of Venice.

Navigation is easy, start by scrolling down the page.

The first thing you get to see is an amazing aerial shot of Venice.

Next up, is checking out historical Venice. Click the markers to investigate the locations. Once clicked you'll receive a snapshot of the location and some information about it. If you click the snapshot, that location will open in another tab and you'll get a closer view of it. I highly reccomend taking a closer look at Teatro La Fenice (The Phoenix Theater) the building is beautiful.

After you've had your fill of the historical, scroll down again to the Roam the City section. Here you'll find two options at the left and right of your screen, you can either Explore on Foot or Explore on Vaporetto. The default is to Explore by Gondola and was by far my favorite way to get around the city. To navigate just use your mouse to click around the panorama.

The next section you'll scroll down to is the Take a Tour section, I know you're thinking to yourself, but I just did that! I know I did. But this is different, it connects famous pieces of art with the location depicted within them. Again you'll click the markers to investigate, this time when you click the image you'll get a pop up that shows you the artwork and a side by side image of its location in Venice.

Get Lost lets you watch a video that shows you what you can do with this Street View Trek, it's about a minute long.

The next section lets you pick from three different paths to explore. You can select I Like Adventure, I Like History, and I Like Romance. Each option shows you three locations to explore.

And last but not least, are options to go explore other locations like the Galapagos Islands, Mt. Everest, the Grand Canyon, and Iqaluit. Even more locations can be found by clicking on the Street View Treks link at the top or bottom of the page. '

This has made me even more excited to plan a trip to Venice in the future! I hope you'll go check it out today!

Polar Bear Shaking Off

This image is one of a series where this big 'ole Polar Bear emerged from a snow bank and decided to take a stroll around our Polar Rover. He had already brushed off once, so I really wasn't expecting it when he paused for a moment mid-stride and gave a giant shake! He looked like a big dog just coming out of a bath – a snow bath in this instance! My favorite part…(More)
