In The News: 12-13-2013 Facebook Boosts News In Feeds With more and more people counting on their Facebook news feed as a source for current events, Facebook has announced a plan to boost the placement of news articles in feeds, especially on mobile devices.
They promises a greater emphasis on news, current events and sports stories and also bumping up the position of news stories with fresh comments. That may result in you seeing the same post reappear in your feed, but Facebook says it's because they want to lead to more conversations between friends about content. Posts will also feature related content from other sites. Amazon Expands Home Grocery Delivery Amazon is planning to expand its AmazonFresh grocery delivery service to San Francisco.
Users can order fresh veggies and fruit along with dairy and meat and have them delivered right to their doors. The service is already available in Seattle and Los Angeles. eBay CEO Says Amazon Drones Are A Fantasy In a television interview, eBay CEO John Donahue said that Amazon's drone delivery plan was a long-term fantasy" and that eBay was focused on things they could do today. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos previously said that he expects to have drone delivery in place by 2015. ~ Cynthia Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version -- Mohammed from KSA writes: Why is it called CD burning as against copying or pasting or saving?
That's a simple one, it's because you are literally burning a CD. CD and DVD burners/writers work by using a laser to burn the surface of the CD or DVD. Making certain portions of the surface darker creates a digital pattern. DVD and CD players read discs by running a laser over the surface and this pattern gives the player digital information that it can interpret as data, sound or video. ~ Cynthia Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version
Vincent from Lakewood, NJ writes: On several web sites, including Optimum Online (my ISP) and your site, I am asked if I want my user ID remembered. I almost always say yes, and I am almost always ignored! How can I get those sites to remember me? Vincent, that issue is probably due to settings on your browser. Let's fix it. If you are using Internet Explorer click the gear symbol or Tools menu and choose Internet Options.
When the Internet Options window opens, select the Content tab. Then choose the settings button next to AutoComplete.
Check User names and passwords on forms and then hit OK.
For Google Chrome select the menu in the upper right corner and choose Settings from the drop-down menu.
Go to the very bottom of the page that opens and select Show advanced settings.
Another page will open. Scroll down that page to Passwords and forms. Make sure to tick the boxes that enable Autofill and give you the option to save passwords.
Finally, here's how to do it in Firefox. Choose the Firefox men, then select Options and then Options again.
When the Options window opens, choose Security at the top and check the box that says Remember passwords for sites.
Hopefully that takes care of the issue for you. ~ Cynthia Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version -- Mel from Tempe, AZ writes: Help! I clicked the download button to get a new screen saver, but I can't find it. This sort of thing has happened to me more than once. I say I want to download something and it says it downloads, but I cannot find it anywhere. Sometimes when I download something, a program will open. Sometimes nothing happens, but when I try to download the item again, it asks if I want to replace that file. So where is the file? I use Windows 7 if that helps. Mel, it's time to introduce you to your Downloads folder. Various kinds of programs will go straight there, including set-up files for things like iTunes, screensavers, eBooks and some images and documents. The quickest way to find it is to hit the Start Button and type "downloads" in the search box.
Then select the Downloads icon from the results.
The window for your download folder will open.
You can sort downloads by Name, Date, Type and Size just by by clicking on that column header.
Choosing date is the easiest way to find a recent download. Here you can see that I downloaded a setup program for iTunes. I had to double-click on that download to launch the installation of iTunes on my computer.
Downloads will not always be clearly named. bcgavr11 is actually an installation program for a screensaver. That's why it's helpful to be able to sort by date and time.
Here are some eBooks that I downloaded.
You can select these files and either copy or drag and drop them to another folder. I have a file just for eBooks, so I can put them there.
Some files might be "zipped" or compressed.
Double-clicking on that folder would open another folder that contained the files.
Files and photos that you download from places like GoogleDrive may also go into this folder. Downloaded music will usually go into your computer's Music folder, but if you can't find it there, check the Downloads folder. ~ Cynthia Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version Do you have a question for us? If you guessed the one on the right... correct! Why's she so happy? Because getting all her files back was THIS easy: You simply take your handy Lexar 16GB back up flash drive and plug it into any computer. You don't lose a single file, and you don't spend the weekend wishing you had printed those vacation photos that you'll never get back. Who would YOU prefer to be in that scenario? There's only ONE reason not to back up data: It USED to be hard. It took a lot of time, it took expensive hardware or software, and it took some tech-savvy. Think about everything you have on your computer: TONS of photos. ALL of your favorite music. Family videos and contact information. How about work documents, important files, sensitive documents. Even your passwords, e-mails, favorite web pages... EVERYTHING! After a crash, you can't get those photos back. The videos are now distant memories. And your passwords? Good luck remembering the ones you haven't had to type in for years. BUT IF IT'S BACKED UP, YOU WON'T LOSE ANYTHING! PERIOD! And with backing up this easy, you won't even have to think about it! This DEFINES User Friendly!

Vicki from Decatur, Alabama writes: I love your site and I learn so much from it. I look forward to it every day. I have an iPhone 4 and I have lots of music on it. It downloads automatically when I do upgrades or back-ups on my computer. I have lots of music because my granddaughter likes music. I need to know how to get this music off my iPhone and keep it from downloading every time I plug into my computer with my phone. Can you help? Vicki, you need to disable auto-syncing in iTunes. Now don't plug your phone in yet. Let's open iTunes on your computer.
In the upper left-hand corner there's a little box that's half dark and half light. Select the arrow beside it.
From the drop-down menu that appears, choose Preferences. Check out WorldStart for the rest of this tip! -- iOS7 Control Your Control Center Those out there that have upgraded to iOS7 know about the Control Center already. Just swipe up from the bottom of your screen and get instant access to your iDevice's basic controls (camera, screen brightness, Bluetooth, timer, music controls, etc.).
Pretty neat, huh? but did you also know that the Control Center can be accessed from the lock screen by default? Yep this means that at any time your nosy nephew with the sticky peanut butter fingers can flip switches, turn things off and take pictures of the ground at his leisure. No good. The minds at Apple knew stuff like this was going to happen, though, so they made it possible to limit access to the Control Center just in case. How do you do it? Ray from SLC, UT writes: I don't know why, but my Windows Task Manager doesn't have the normal Address Bar up top, not the Menu bar of File/Options/View/Help and none of the tabs of Processes/Services/Performance/Networking/Users either. I am running Windows 7, and no matter how I bring up the Task Manager, it just show the applications that I have running, under Task and Status, and I can End Task/Switch To/New Task, but that's about it. I have the same problem with my Windows 7 laptop as well. I hope you can help me bring back the full functionality of the Task Manager. Answer: It sounds to me like the task manager looks like the picture below. If so, the fix is a really simple one.
