Quick Tip

Sandy writes:

Hi Someone gave me a computer and I don't remember the password on the router. Is there a way to get it without a) costing anything and b)without buying a new router. Also can you tell me when I type my cursor jumps around. I would appreciate a quick answer as we are hoping to set this up this weekend.

Unfortunately, we were unable to get to Sandy's questions in time for the weekend. We have a large volume of questions and sometimes it takes awhile to get through all of them.

But we've addressed those topics before and I've got a couple of articles that should help Sandy out.

Mel from Tempe, AZ writes:

Help! I clicked the download button to get a new screen saver, but I can't find it. This sort of thing has happened to me more than once. I say I want to download something and it says it downloads, but I cannot find it anywhere. Sometimes when I download something, a program will open. Sometimes nothing happens, but when I try to download the item again, it asks if I want to replace that file. So where is the file? I use Windows 7 if that helps.

Mel, it's time to introduce you to your Downloads folder. Various kinds of programs will go straight there, including set-up files for things like iTunes, screensavers, eBooks and some images and documents. The quickest way to find it is to hit the Start Button and type "downloads" in the search box.

Then select the Downloads icon from the results.

The window for your download folder will open.

You can sort downloads by Name, Date, Type and Size – just by by clicking on that column header.

Choosing date is the easiest way to find a recent download. Here you can see that I downloaded a setup program for iTunes. I had to double-click on that download to launch the installation of iTunes on my computer.

Downloads will not always be clearly named. bcgavr11 is actually an installation program for a screensaver. That's why it's helpful to be able to sort by date and time.

Here are some eBooks that I downloaded.

You can select these files and either copy or drag and drop them to another folder. I have a file just for eBooks, so I can put them there.

Some files might be "zipped" or compressed.

Double-clicking on that folder would open another folder that contained the files.

Files and photos that you download from places like GoogleDrive may also go into this folder. Downloaded music will usually go into your computer's Music folder, but if you can't find it there, check the Downloads folder.

Cheri from Ohio writes:

How can I use my exe PC programs on the Android tablet? For instance like the 602 tab program. I'm also wanting a MS Paint program for it but can not find one, do you have any suggestions? Thanks

Cheri, PC programs just aren't meant to run on the Android system. Windows and Android are two distinctly different operating systems. An Android tablet will perform most of the functions that a home PC user would want, (Web browsing, e-mail, videos, games, word processing etc…) but it won't do it using your PC programs.

To find programs for your Android device, go to the Google Play store. Sometimes there are are Android app versions of the particular PC program you are using, sometimes not. But you can usually find an app that performs many of the same functions.

Hello, I access my e-mail via the web ( I have aGgmail account). I am not a computer expert by any means but I recently noticed that every time I send a message from Gmail multiple copies of it are stored in the trash bin?????? Also in the bottom left corner of my Gmail account where is says mail activity you can see the message leaving and then 2 copies of it coming back in to the computer????? Someone told me that it sounds like my mail is accessed via an email client connecting to my account via IMAP????? I know very little when it comes to computers but I never set up any other type of email access ever. I live with someone who works in IT and has been very invasive of everyone's privacy in the past ( I found out he was storing all my passwords to my e-mail, bank accounts, verizon account and online work schedule). I am hoping that I am overreacting and they are not doing this again, I have nothing to hide but it is very freaky. Please help. I also own a mac – I'm not sure if this matters, thank you :)

First things first, if you believe someone is illegally accessing your account, change the password immediately. In fact, consider changing the password frequently. Make sure that all of your devices are password protected.

You can disable POP and IMAP access to your Gmail. You can find out pretty quickly if your account is set up for IMAP access. Just click the drop-down menu next to the gear in your Inbox and choose settings.

Amanda's Coolsite

High Existance

I discovered this site via a friend who posted a thought-provoking article from High Existence on her Facebook page. After exploring the site, I thought while not every topic was my cup of tea that there was quite a bit of value in the site and so I should share it with all of you.

When you arrive at the site, you'll be greeted with a navigation strip at the top of the page (the pen, thought bubble, video camera, camera, quotation mark, and magnifying glass buttons) that allow you to navigate into each section. On the landing page you'll find featured content from each of the sections; from top to bottom you'll find blog posts, discussions, videos, images, and quotations featured.

If you have any questions, you can check out the FAQ – you'll find the link at the bottom of the page. It explains how to register, submit posts, images, and video, as well as how to use the basic mechanics of the site. I found it to be very helpful.

Go check out High Existence today and start exploring the meaning of life.

One More Big Deal

Love To Walk, Jog, Run, or Just Work Out?

Now You Can... WITH A SOUNDTRACK!

Amazing Headband With Built In Headphones & Microphone!

Exercise. Jam Out. Keep Your Ears Warm. Talk On The Phone.

And Do It All Easily!

Looks Normal On The Outside...

But Inside, It's a Musical Paradise!

The Easiest Way To Move, Listen, And Chat!

Stop Dealin' With Earbuds That Fall Out Every Step!

Have You Ever Tried To Do ANYTHING With Regular Earbuds?

If you take so much as a step, they fall right out!

No matter what they advertise, earbuds just don't stay in!

You COULD force 'em in and they might stay... but at the expense of damaging your ears and making them sore too!

And regular headphones? Don't get me started!

Over-the-top ones fall off just as easily, and the ones that hang onto your ears will rub the skin right off 'em after one light jog!

Nope, you need a simple, comfortable solution and these things are just that!

Looks Like a Headband, But It's SO Much More!

Onlookers will be none-the-wiser when they see you passing by with these on! To everyone else, they just look like a normal old headband!

In fact, it IS a headband/sweatband! Made of a special wicking fabric, it draws moisture away from your head!

That means no sweat in your eyes!

And since it's coverin' up your ears, that chilly winter air won't slow you down a step!

Even if you don't feel like jamming out, this sweatband is gonna make working out a lot more comfortable!

GET YOUR MUSIC ON THE MOVE! This is by FAR the best part!

The headphones built into the headband are amazing when it comes to quality!

If you think bigger is better, this is gonna prove it...

They're STILL compact... but they blow earbuds out of the water! You just can't get the audio quality like this out of tiny little buds!

The headband holds them perfectly in place, too!

You could be doing a military obstacle course without missing a single note from your favorite song!

Now THAT'S what we've all been looking for!

You'll be looking for excuses to go out for a walk or a jog once you have these! Nothin' takes the boredom away from an exercise like losing yourself in a great album!

Hands-Free Chatting! NO JOKE!

I know, I know, this is starting to sound way too good to be true... but it is true!

If you plug these bad boys into a smartphone, you can use the built in microphone to talk without having to take your phone outta your pocket!

The audio from the person on the line will go through the headphones, so you can have a complete conversation with your phone STILL safely tucked away!

It's convenient. It's safer. And it's gonna make sure you don't have to slow down a step when you're in the middle of keeping yourself healthy!

The phone quality is BETTER than normal!

This might be my favorite part! With the way new smartphones are designed, you don't always get the best position for audio quality, both outgoing or incoming.

When you use this headset to chat, you'll be able to understand them more clearly!

Get Ready For An UNBELIEVABLE Price!

If you think these are going to cost $30-50 like you'll find 'em elsewhere... think again!

THEY'RE ONLY $16.97 with FREE US SHIPPING!

Wondering if these will sell out fast? They will!

Heads up, the sale ends Thursday and these go up to $19.97

Polar Bear Shaking Off

This image is one of a series where this big 'ole Polar Bear emerged from a snow bank and decided to take a stroll around our Polar Rover. He had already brushed off once, so I really wasn't expecting it when he paused for a moment mid-stride and gave a giant shake! He looked like a big dog just coming out of a bath – a snow bath in this instance! My favorite part…(More)

Silent Stargazers (great for mobile devices)

Winter in Bryce Canyon, Utah. It's cold. Like 20 degrees below zero, but it felt like more like forty below from an aggressive wind biting at your face. And I decide it might be fun to go out and shoot some star photos :) Fortunately, I had plenty of arctic gear with me and that made all the difference in the world. My hands were always cold from...
