Man Claims Google's Autocomplete Cost Him His Job

Jeffry Kantor is furious because he says Google's Autocomple function cost his a job. He says he was searching for information on how to build a radio controlled airplane and the search engine's auto complete changed it to "how to build a radio controlled bomb."

Kantor worked for a defense contractor and he says government investigators paid him a visit. Kantor was also fired from his job at Appian. He's filed a lawsuit against the Attorney General, the director the NSA, the Secretary of Defense and the CIA Director. He wants nearly $60 million in damages.

Gmail Will Now Automatically Display Images

In the past, Gmail has always asked before displaying images in emails in order to protect users from unknown senders. But the company says thanks to improvements in the way it handles images, users will soon see all images automatically displayed in Gmail messages on computers and mobile devices.

Users who don't wish to see images automatically can change their settings back to "Ask before displaying external content."

Apple Users Complain About Mavericks Syncing

Changes in the way contacts are synced with OS X 10.9 Mavericks have some Apples users complaining about privacy concerns. With Mavericks, there is no longer a choice to manually sync contacts between Macs and other iOS devices. Those contacts now have to be stored in the iCloud. You can't remove those contacts unless you cancel the account.

Windows 8.1 File History: A Realtime Backup Tool

One of the cool features of Windows 8.1 is File History. Once activated, it archives older versions of your files automatically. Now it's not a total system backup, but it does archive your documents, photos, music and videos.

Here's how to use it. You'll need to have an external drive of some kind hooked up to your computer to do this. You could also use a flash drive.

Either just start typing control panel on the Metro/Modern Screen or open the Search Charm and type control panel. Select Control Panel from the results.

Then choose Save backup copies of your files with File History.

Turn File History On.

You can start the backup right then or you wait until later. Using Select drive, you can choose another drive as the backup destination.

Exclude folders allows you leave out folders you don't wish to back up.

Advanced settings will let you manage several features, including how often you you want to do the back up. You can select lengths of time ranging from every 10 minutes to daily.

You can also change the size of the offline cache and determine how long you want the saved versions to be stored, ranging from forever to until space is needed.

Should you ever need to restore your files, just type restore your files in the search charm and click or tap Restore your files with File History. You'll enter the name of the files you're looking to restore. You will be offered different versions of the file. Select the once you want and choose restore.

Whose Internet Is The Fastest?

Imagine the fastest man in the world — Jamaican Olympian runner Usain Bolt — with one of the fastest mobile devices — the Blackberry Q10 — matched with the fastest Internet speed…which would be where exactly?

While Bolt's homeland has helped Cuba, the country with the lowest online connectivity rates in the Western Hemisphere, connect to its faster fiber-optic cable network, other places around the world are surfing online with lightning bolt speed.

A "quick" look at the top places in the world for fastest Internet connection shows Mr. Bolt would have to sprint outside the realm of the United Kingdom. The U.K. just misses out in the top 10 in a Bloomberg report, ranking 12th worldwide.

The top 10, according to Flanders Today, includes...

From The Archives

George from Ohio writes:

I read how to clone a hard drive (mechanical to SSD). If I want to clone an external hard drive, is the process the same, or do I have to do something different (and if so what)?

Answer:

Thank you for reading my article on closing your hard drive using EasyUs Disk Copy (click here to read the original article.) If you want to use a software program inside of Windows instead of making a boot disk with EasyUS Disk Copy, I recommend MiniTool Partition Wizard. You can read my review of MiniTool by clicking here.

The answer to your question is yes, the process is the same to clone an external hard drive as an internal one. The only thing you have to make sure you do correctly is select the source disk as the correct external drive, and the destination disk as the new external drive.

To everyone else reading this article thinking "why would you want to clone an external hard drive?" there are a few good reasons to do this...

Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee

Jerry Seinfeld chats with fellow comedians as they grab a cup of coffee. He picks them up in a different car each episode that makes him think of the comedian he'll be talking with.

These videos run from 8 minutes to just under 20 minutes long. As with most comedy there's the chance of profanity, so I wouldn't recommend watching this with your kids!

Season One has ten episodes and features the following comedians: Michael Richards, Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks, Colin Quinn and Mario Joyner, Barry Marder (Ted L. Nancy), Bob Einstein, Joel Hodgson, Alec Baldwin, Brian Regan, Ricky Gervais, and Larry David.

Season Two has six episodes and features the following comedians: Sarah Silverman, David Letterman, Gad Elmaleh, Don Rickles, Seth Meyers, and Chris Rock.

I particularly enjoyed the Michael Richards, Sarah Silverman, and Alec Baldwin episodes. And as soon as I'm on winter break I plan on going back and watching them through consecutively.

Go check them out today!

One More Big Deal

Protection That SAVES You Money?! WOW!

The Only Surge Protector That Saves You From Wasting Electricity!

1080 Joules of Surge Stoppin' Power!

It's Even An Outlet Multiplier!

YES!

Two "Always On" Outlets...

...And Two That Shut Off When Not In Use!

Prevents Surge Damage & Wasted Electricity!

This Is Gonna Save You A TON!

You use surge protectors, right?

I certainly hope so.

Whether it's your computer, your TV, your stereo system, or outlet you charge your mobile devices on... you NEED a surge protector.

The LAST thing you need is for a little power surge or a lightning strike to turn your entire home into a graveyard for fried electronics.

Expensive electronics turn to gigantic paperweights. Your computer goes from having all your photos, videos, and documents to having NOTHING... it's not pretty.

1080 Joules of Protection - WHOA!

That's one MONSTER surge protector!

Most of the time, it's recommended to have a surge protector that's at LEAST rated for 200-400 joules.

When you get to the 600-joules rated ones, you're considered "well protected"

THIS ONE IS RATED FOR 1080 JOULES!

I think the numbers speak for themselves on this one!

So, I could go on all day about the benefits of surge protection... but I'm pretty sure you get it! Your stuff is expensive, this isn't, and it protects your expensive stuff. It's a no-brainer!

Plus, it turns a pair of outlets into four, so you're not just protecting stuff - you're getting yourself more outlets!

But Here's Something REALLY Cool!

Two of these outlets are "smart" outlets.

You know how you hear about "vampire" energy drain? If you leave a charger in the outlet for anything (laptops, phones, MP3 players, etc) the charger will KEEP drawing power even after the device is fully powered!

That's a waste of electricity. And that means it's a waste of money.

THIS THING AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS OFF WHEN YOUR DEVICES ARE FULLY-CHARGED!

Yep. The two smart outlets are capable of sensing that they don't NEED to be drawing power anymore and will turn off until they do.

That makes this a PERFECT surge protector to keep nearby your computer area.

Plug your normal devices in the "always on" outlets, and your chargers or other devics that you don't use all the time in the other ones.

It's BRILLIANT!

No surges, no wasted energy, more money in your pocket.

That's not the ONLY reason this saves you big.

YOUR PRICE IS ONLY $16.97 with FREE US SHIPPING!

If you think this is going to sell out fast, you're right! So get to the store quick!

PS - $24.97 is what these go up to Saturday!!

Polar Bear Shaking Off

This image is one of a series where this big 'ole Polar Bear emerged from a snow bank and decided to take a stroll around our Polar Rover. He had already brushed off once, so I really wasn't expecting it when he paused for a moment mid-stride and gave a giant shake! He looked like a big dog just coming out of a bath – a snow bath in this instance! My favorite part…(More)

Silent Stargazers (great for mobile devices)

Winter in Bryce Canyon, Utah. It's cold. Like 20 degrees below zero, but it felt like more like forty below from an aggressive wind biting at your face. And I decide it might be fun to go out and shoot some star photos :) Fortunately, I had plenty of arctic gear with me and that made all the difference in the world. My hands were always cold from...
