Lou writes: How do I store my emails, etc., on my computer rather than the 'cloud'? I don't like depending on someone else to keep my info safe; not to mention secure. Lou you'll need to get an e-mail client. You could use Microsoft Mail or purchase Microsoft Outlook or use another e-mail client like Thunderbird. These programs will download your emails from your e-mail provider's server and into a program on your computer.
Here's an article with some information on Windows Mail and Thunderbird. ~ Cynthia Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version

These Tough Credit Card Holders Shield Your Cards! On Top Of That, They're Just Some Good Old Shock Protection! Never Worry About Bending Or Breaking Your Cards!
Sometimes Technology Makes It TOO Easy... You know how it is, something comes along and makes stuff simpler for everyone. Well, guess who's part of "everyone"? Thieves. Credit cards and debit cards can be scanned by all sorts of devices. Heck, there's even new electronics you can attach to your phone to let you process a credit card payment anywhere you are, right on your smartphone! You better believe it that thieves know how this stuff works. According to recent articles, using nothing more than the same tools a payment processor uses, thieves could potentially make a tool to scan your card in the time it takes them to walk past you on the street! Even an ordinary laptop can utilize radio waves to copy and clone cards - that's a scary thought! Do YOU know what kind of information your credit card has stored in it? But guess what? Protecting yourself is just as easy! This RFID-resistant credit card holder encases your cards and prevents anyone from just walking by and causing you to be a victim of "wireless identity theft" (look it up, it's real!) Tough and portable, these security wallets shield your contactless cards from all sorts of unsavory scanning. Basically, if your cards are in here, you're not the "easy target" anymore. Now you're protected! And this isn't just for one or two cards, either! THIS HAS 8 SLEEVES! That should be more than enough for anyone's important cards! Credit cards, IDs, debit cards, anything! Put them in here and you won't have to worry at all! Whatever color you get, it'll look great! Just check 'em out!
And honestly, it's just a great way to protect your cards, too! If you've ever had a credit card break or get damaged, you know why that's important! You're stuck having to call and inform them to cancel it, that you need a replacement, and then you have to wait WEEKS just to get the new card! Some of us rely on those debit cards so we don't have to walk around with all our cash 24/7! Protects Your Money Before You Use It! Seeing as it's only $4.97 with FREE US shipping on any order over $5... you're already protecting your money! That's one dirt-cheap way to prevent identity theft! http://store.worldstart.com/product/9299 Sale ends Tuesday and these run up to $8.97!!
Bob from Adelaide, Australia writes: I purchased Windows 8 Pro Pack 12 months ago and the activation key code will not activate. I have tried all avenues to find a solution. to no avail. It seems to me Microsoft has a problem and can not solve it. I have wasted $49.00.
Bob, the price you cited concerns me. The Windows 8 Pro Pack (which upgrades Windows 8 to Windows 8 Pro) retails for $99.99. I checked the pricing in both the U.S. and Australia. If you were able to purchase it for $49 in either U.S. or Australian dollars, you may have your hands on a counterfeit copy and that would explain why it won't activate. There are also a couple of other things, I'd like to confirm. I will assume you already have Windows 8 installed on your computer. The Windows Pro Pack is an upgrade for systems already running Windows 8. It won't upgrade another operating system to 8.
I know this sounds silly, but it does happen, make sure your computer didn't already come with Windows 8 Pro installed. To upgrade Windows 8 Pro you'll need to install the Windows 8 or 8.1 Media Center pack. There's always the options of contacting Microsoft Support, though I know you say you've tried all avenues. ~ Cynthia Click here to rate this tip | Printer friendly version Do you have a question for us? Robert from Raymond Maine writes: How do I get my Windows Paint program back? I tried to repair it from the program files but it says it has a damaged file and won't install. I am running XP Pro and IE
Answer: You can reinstall Paint or other Windows built-in programs you are missing fairly easily in Windows XP. Start by clicking the start button then click control panel. In control panel click Add or Remove Programs then click Add/Remove Windows Components. Select Accessories and Utilities and click details then click Paint and press OK. Eugene from Chino California asked us: "Is there a simplified tree, maybe in several pages, to show what is in Windows 7 in such things as the control panel or any of the solution devices which are used for maintaining a PC?" We thought that was a great idea and decided to do a special series. In part one we looked at System and Security. In part two we checked out Network and Internet. Part three was hardware and software. Part four was Programs. In part five we saw User Accounts and Family Safety. For part six, we've got a look at Appearance and Personalization.
