Microsoft Names New CEO

Microsoft has named the new CEO. Nadella is the third CEO of Microsoft. He's been with the company since 1992 and has been running the company's enterprise and cloud divisions.

"Our industry does not respect tradition – it only respects innovation," Nadella said. "The opportunity ahead for Microsoft is vast, but to seize it, we must move faster, focus and continue to transform. I see a big part of my job as accelerating our ability to bring innovative products to our customers more quickly."

He replaces Steve Ballmer who has faced criticism over the less than stellar launch of Windows 8 and the company's struggles to become a player in the tablet and phone market. The company also replaced Chairman Bill Gates with John Thompson. Gates will now be known as the Founder and Technology Advisor.

XP's Share of Market Actually Grows

Even with the end of security support for Windows XP coming in April, the operating system actually managed to grow its share of the operating system market in January, adding a .25% jump in users to put XP on 29.2% of all computers around the world. XP is still on a third of all Windows PCs.

Adobe Issues Critical Flash Player Update

Adobe has issued an emergency update for Flash Player due to a vulnerability that can allow an attacker to remotely take control of a system. This vulnerability affects the program on Mac, Windows and Linux operating systems.

ALERT!

THESE ARE ALMOST COMPLETELY SOLD OUT!

(And We Can't Get Any More!)

Dust, Smudges, Dirt, Grime...

The List Of Stuff That Wants To RUIN Your Possessions!

Keep Them In Pristine Condition The RIGHT Way!

Paper Towels Are WASTING Your Money & Time!

Meet The Smart Microfiber Cloth!

Clean & Polish Everything!

No Messy Sprays - Machine Washable!

THIS CLOTH IS FOR LIFE!

Wait, you still use paper towels?

Are you crazy, or do you just love wasting money?!

Wipe twice, throw 'em out.

Repeat a few times, the roll runs out, and you've just wasted $5! Now do it again every week (or sooner, depending on how fast you go through those things!)

And that's not even getting into the FACT that wood-based products like tissues and paper towels WILL scratch sensitive surfaces.

Your touchscreen phone? Your computer monitor? Your television? Your laptop screen? Your GLASSES?

Do NOT use regular paper towels or tissues on those! You'll just replace gross smudges with PERMANENT scratches!

(And NOTHING wipes off a scratch!)

You aren't cleaning those things when you do that - you're DESTROYING them!

You NEED the smartest microfiber cloth in the WORLD!

AND WE'VE GOT IT FOR $4.97!!!

For less than a burger and fries, you could keep ALL your sensitive electronics (plus every other surface, for that matter) safe and clean FOREVER!

If you use ONE roll of paper towels, you've already spent more for less benefit.

Now tell me that's not the best deal of 2014?!

Microfiber is just BETTER!

The most important part is NO SCRATCHES! Microfiber cloth is specially designed to be safe on ANY surface!

Besides, other wipes won't even get rid of the oily fingerprints and smudges. They just wipe it all over.

So instead of a fingerprint-sized unreadable section... your entire SCREEN gets covered in an oily gloss! That's gross and frustrating!

This amazing cloth takes ALL that stuff and removes it completely!

Smudges, grime, dust, dirt, fingerprints, everything!

Double Sided Means A Better Clean!

Use the plush side to get your device or surface clean!

Then follow it up with the silk side to make sure it's polished up and looking pristine!

You'll NEVER get a clean like this with inferior cloths and wipes! You need an expertly crafted microfiber cloth like this or you're just moving dirt around, not cleaning it!

NO LIQUIDS! NO SPRAYS! NO RISK!

After all, who likes chemicals?!

They're abrasive, potentially toxic, and can ruin the electronics of your device if you use too much!

This saves you the trouble, without sacrificing any cleaning power!

And with the anti-microbial coating, you won't have to worry about the REAL little things! Bacteria for mold and mildew are everywhere - this prevents your microfiber cloth from ever getting nasty!

When you've used it a bunch just throw it in the wash!

It's easy as pie to clean and you can use it over and over and over and over and over!

We found these online and NOBODY has 'em this cheap!

The lowest price we found anywhere was $10! We've got them for HALF that!

(And some places had 'em for WAY more!)

REMEMBER - IT'S ONLY $4.97!! And US shipping is free on any order over $5!

That's just a straight-up unbeatable price!

Do NOT wait - Saturday the sale ends and these go to $8.97!!

Computers 101

Robert from Arizona writes:

A MS tech said that using a dual startup with two hard drives, one with Windows 7 and the other with Windows 8 would cause the computer to become unstable, have you had information that bears that out. Some websites say that it can be done. Thanks

Hi Robert!

I think, in most cases, a dual boot with Windows 7 and Windows 8 is possible. It would depend on the hardware and specifications on your system, but it can be done. In fact, I currently am running a dual boot system of Windows 7 and Windows 8 on my Worldstart computer right now.

There are two options to set up a dual boot computer – using two separate hard drives, or using partitioned hard drives. Windows 8 requires at least 20 GB, but I would plan on 30-50 GB in any partition or hard drive you plan to use. If you are partitioning you would need to plan on saving at least that much. You can find the process for partitioning in this article, which also discusses dual booting with Windows 7 and Windows 8 developer preview. In my case, I have a partitioned hard drive. As you can see from the image below, I have a drive C:, titled New Volume, and a drive D:, title OS. Windows 7 is on the OS partition, and Windows 8 is on the New Volume. I primarily use Windows 8.

Using two different hard drives functions in pretty much the same way. There may be a few different settings you will need to change when using two hard drives when installing. However, in either set up, when you boot up, you will get an option to choose which OS you would like to load into.

An important thing to remember when installing a dual boot system is to be certain you start with installing the older system first, then install the newer OS. The newer OS will update any files needed. If you try to go from new to old, the system may load at all, as the older system may corrupt the newer files. You should also be sure to backup any files you have before setting up the dual boot.

Finally, take note that dual boot only allows you to run one of the operating systems at a time. In order to switch to the other OS, you have to completely restart the computer and boot into the other version. If you are looking to run two operating systems simultaneously, you would want to look into virtualization.

On The Move

Repurpose & Recycle Smartphones & Tablets

With new mobile devices coming out every few months, you likely have a few smartphones or tablets lying around collecting dust. If your device is new enough, you may be able to trade it in or sell it to make money for the latest model. If it's more than a few years old or you don't want to sell it, you can repurpose smartphones and tablets and still use them for many years. The only real cost is possibly a replacement battery which many places now sell for less than $10.

Turn It Into A Toy

You may not want to hand a young child a new $500 iPhone, but you could turn your old one into their new toy.

Download some kid friendly apps via WiFi and remove any apps, photos and even access to the browser (if you don't want your child doing anything without your permission). You can even delete the WiFi password from the device so your child can't download anything unless you approve it first. To make the smartphone or tablet a little more durable, buy a rugged case that protects from falls and even spills.

Create A Dedicated E-Reader

Reading on your tablet or smartphone is often a hassle because other apps drain the battery quickly. Instead, turn your old device into an e-reader. Download your favorite e-reader app and remove other apps. Removing other apps will help the battery last longer and give you more room for books and magazines.

Kitchenbug

I freely admit my recipe bookmarks have gotten out of hand. I have well over five hundred recipes saved in my recipe bookmark folder. And I can't really organize it easily. So I went looking for a way to do just that and discovered Kitchenbug!

Before you sign up for your free account, you can check out the video beneath the sign up buttons. Or you can scroll past that and read about the function of the site as well.

After watching the video I just mentioned, I signed up via Facebook. It generated a form and all I had to do was create a password. Then I clicked the Join button. Next up is setting up the profile page. You can select an avatar image, tell people about yourself, share your gender and birth date, and then decide whether or not you want your profile to be public by either unchecking the option for privacy or leaving it alone for a public profile. Then you'll click the Next button.

After setting up your profile it offers you a video to teach you how to use the site. It is only a minute long and is worth watching. When you're done or to skip it, click the Next button.

It then shows you how to set up the Kitchenbug bookmark button. So that you can easily save recipes to your recipe box. When you've done that click Done and you're ready to start saving recipes.

I'm slowly working my way through my Recipe folder. I did around 100 of the bookmarks I had saved when I signed up. Now I'm parsing it out into smaller groupings.

What I love about this site, is that it provides you with nutritional information about the recipes you're saving. I also adore the social aspect that allows you to save recipes that other users have shared.

Go check it out and start collecting recipes today!

This was captured in the last hour of Polar Bear photography we had up near Churchill Canada. We had spotted this guy while he slumbered in a snow drift and we were lucky all the way around. First, we were lucky he decided to stand up at all – they can happily lounge around for hours and hours. A bit like my kids in fact, but I digress…(More)

Doe's First Winter

had been out tromping through the snow all morning at a local park and was heading back to the 'ol truck when I spotted this little gal. She was a bit shy at first, but it didn't take too long for her to start to get a bit curious about me and come over to investigate. After all, it's not every day you see a guy with three extra legs (tripod) and a huge extra eye (camera / lens). I could see... (More)
